Small local business?
Interested in having a stall? Please note that we are members of the Western Australian Farmers’ Market Association and we aim to operate, as far as possible, as a traditional farmers’ market, based in the Perth metro area.
WHAT IS A FARMERS’ MARKET?
A Farmers’ Market is a predominantly fresh food market that operates regularly within a community, at a focal public location that provides a suitable environment for farmers and specialty food producers to sell farm-origin and associated value-added specialty foods for human consumption, and plant products, directly to customers. If you fit this description, you are our priority. We want to follow the Buy West Eat Best ethos as much as possible.
Products made locally are also welcome, and then we prioritise applications in a flow chart from there, concentrating on local, small businesses selling local products.
We also offer breakfast and brunch options to our patrons and have limited stall spaces for these businesses.
Stall Expressions of Interest in attending Mount Claremont Farmers Market
Mount Claremont Farmers Market is a not-for-profit small business run by the Mount Claremont Primary School Parents & Citizens Association. The Association has an executive committee and a Farmers’ Market Management Committee of a chair person and two other members. They meet regularly with the market operations manager who is employed part-time to manage the market as a sustainable business entity.
All money raised is used to pay for running costs including payment of annual license fees to the City of Nedlands, insurance cover, lease fee for the market area and market shed plus electricity usage paid to the Dept. of Education, staff wages, website and marketing, accountancy fees, infrastructure, equipment, and so on.
As a non-profit, all money raised is used for the benefit of the primary school, aiding funding in building upgrades, premises upgrades, school programs such as Edudance, Friendology, and school events such as Year 6 graduation, subsidising school camps, swimming and other sports training, plus school equipment such as musical instruments, sports equipment, technology, and so on.
The final decision concerning market stall applications is made by the Market Management Committee.
Factors the committee takes into consideration when assessing applications may include (but are not limited to):
Duplication of existing products available in the market
The Market is not anti competitive. It will take into account how many existing producers are selling a particular product, what point of difference you may offer and whether market need is being met. The Market actively seeks to provide diverse produce, rather than straight duplication.
Space and infrastructure available within the market site
Land use conforming to local planning laws which limit the market area and stall number
Sustainability of the market and the new stall business
If you feel you have a stall that meets the criteria above, come and visit the market on a Saturday and carefully consider if you think this will suit your business and if you might suit the market mix.
If yes, then please complete and submit the form below. In the Message section please explain what you plan to sell, where it is from, how often you wish to come, and what you believe your stall will add to the Mount Claremont Farmers’ Market.
